Youthcom believes:
That parish communities have a special role in promoting the fullest participation of all young people in the life, mission and work of the faith community;
That a major part of this role is to welcome young people and to seek to ensure that they minister side by side with the adults of the community;
That young people share an equality of dignity and action in the life of the parish community, and
That the active involvement of young people in parish communities gives a more authentic witness to the gospel message within the wider community.
Youthcom will seek to support parishes in creating 'youth friendly' communities by:
- Developing, sustaining and building upon partnerships with, and between parishes;
- Contributing to an increasingly co-ordinated and comprehensive model of youth ministry within parishes and within groups of parishes;
- Assisting and facilitating all young people, including those who are most vulnerable, to feel that they belong to, and are part of, their local church and faith community;
- Empowering the gifts and talents of all young people as resources to be shared with, and valued by, the parish community;
- Seeking to influence the allocation of resources at diocesan and parish level in order to facilitate effective youth ministry provision; and
- Promoting programmes and training initiatives for youth ministers which seek to support the faith development of all young people.
